Dawn of the Woke
My work, Dawn of the Woke was made during the pandemic and put together as a multi-media slideshow to present for my BFA thesis. There was no show for 20’ & 21’ college graduates and the thesis website has not been maintained and expired. You can only see my thesis on this page at the moment.
In 2019, it bothered me deeply as a Hongkonger that I could not afford to be present at home, Hong Kong, to photograph a historical period. I could only torture myself by watching events go off on internet live streams that long summer. Then in 2020, when George Floyd’s death erupted the protests here, I started to make work for also my home, New York. I felt compelled to capture the emotions and energy that people amplified on the streets. It was a learning experience, a history contribution using street photography practice.
